There are many adventures to enjoy in Belize. In addition to relaxing on the beach and the activities you can enjoy right here in Hopkins Village, you can venture out on day and half-day trips to explore surrounding areas. Although you can explore and research things you might like to do before you arrive, you do not need to book any of these activities in advance. You can make all the arrangements once you arrive in Hopkins. Here are a few of the many options to explore during your stay in Hopkins:
Mayflower Bocawina National Park (hiking, swimming, waterfalls, wildlife, rappelling, zipline)
This park is about a 30 minute ride north of Hopkins on the Southern Highway. "This is a beautiful park of jungle, mountains, swimming holes, waterfalls, and nature trails - keep your eyes peeled for black howler monkeys." ~Lonely Planet
Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary Jaguar Preserve (hiking, swimming, waterfalls, river tubing, wildlife)
This park is about a 45 minute ride south of Hopkins on the Southern Highway. "This is Belize's most famous, and one of its biggest, protected areas - the huge swath of tropical forest became the world's first jaguar sanctuary in 1984. Today it's home to an estimated 40 to 50 jaguars and a vast array of wildlife. Visits are restricted to an eastern pocket where there's an information center, accommodation and walking trails." ~Lonely Planet
Blue Hole National Park/St. Hermanns Cave/Crystal Cave (hiking, swimming, wildlife, cave tubing, artifacts)
"Enjoy the unique geological features found within 575 acres of forest rich with wildlife. The main attractions in this park, St. Herman's Cave and the Blue Hole, are connected by an underground stream. Visitors can walk 300 yards into the cave entrance unguided or can hire a tour guide to traverse the cave completely, seeing beautiful speleothems and Maya artifacts. After a guided tour through St. Herman's Cave you can float peacefully back to the entrance of the cave on an inner tube." ~ Belize Audubon Society
Actun Tunichil Muknal--ATM Cave (hiking, wildlife, artifacts, cave swimming)
"Discover the world of the ancient Maya as you pass through the hourglass-shaped opening of the beautiful Actun Tunichil Muknal cave located in the karstic limestone terrain of Roaring Creek Valley. Actun Tunichil Muknal --the Cave of the Stone Sepulcher is one of the most thrilling caving experiences Belize has to offer." ~ Belize Audubon Society
